REMEMBRANCE DAY MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT JOAN BOYDELL
“Spirit and Saucy Songs”
I have hoped and prayed that we would not still be in this terrible situation now,
but sadly, we find ourselves in yet another lockdown. I am desperate to get back into
our beautiful Centre and get everything back to normal; I am missing you all so much.
The Remembrance Service that we all hoped would take place in our Centre this year will unfortunately, not be happening.
But Val Chapman our Musical Director came up with a brilliant idea. She has recorded some rousing tunes that helped to bring our country together during two world wars. The British troops changed some of the words- risky maybe, saucy certainly- but it kept spirits high. Of Course there were songs that made everyone thoughtful and some even tearful, that is life.
My mum used to say quite often “you have to take the rough with the smooth”, and my goodness that generation was hit hard, a lot harder for us to understand.
I recall very happy times as children sitting by the fire together with mum and dad relating stories of their experiences during the second world war. Mum’s sister used to draw a black line down back of her legs to look like she had stockings on.
Silk stockings were a rare commodity and you needed lots of coupons to purchase a pair.
Now I’m not telling everyone to sing saucy songs-well maybe- What I am asking is please help each other where you can and send out love and healing, as we have been doing, come together as Spiritualists and let’s get through this together.
We are seeing glimmers of hope medically, and we are all trying our best with keeping to Government Guidelines, doing our bit to come out of this safe and well. We as Spiritualists are powerful beyond measure, sending out thoughts of love, healing and hope to our world.
“Keep Singing”
My love to you all
Joan
